Take Advantage of Year-Round Fun in North Myrtle Beach

Winter Activities in North Myrtle BeachEven though this is a post about the chillier time of year for North Myrtle Beach, it should be mentioned that we don’t really experience a true winter here at all. The average high temperature stays above 55 degrees even in the coldest month of January. While you can still enjoy many of the same things about the area as you do in the summer, here are some activities you can use to adjust your trip and make it even better.

Spread Out and Relax

If you think our beaches are off-limits in the chillier months, you’re dead wrong. In fact, many find the beaches in North Myrtle to be even more enjoyable in the off-season. The sand and soothing ocean breeze are still there, without the huge crowds of people. And even if the ocean water is too cold, you can always take in the beautiful sights and sounds. In addition to the oceanfront, there’s more room to travel around down by foot or bike. You can experience the area more like a local than a summertime tourist.

Get a Head Start on Your Golf Game

If you’ve visited North Myrtle Beach before, you’re probably already aware that we have some of the finest golf courses in the world. In the winter, these first-class courses offer discount rates, so you can experience the very best without breaking the bank. By golfing while your friends up North are stuck indoors, you’ll get ahead of your game with an early start (or late finish) on the season. For a more family-oriented activity, try one of the elaborate mini-golf courses.

Go Shopping

There’s plenty of shopping in North Myrtle Beach, whether at shops along the Grand Strand or in the outlet malls. Stores stock up on merchandise for the summer, meaning they’ll need to get rid of what’s left in the end. Many times, this results in unbelievable deals that you can seize. If you visit us in December, get all your Christmas shopping done right here in North Myrtle Beach.

Eat Up

Summer may be the time to swim, but winter is the time to eat. Many summertime visitors are so busy at the beach that they don’t have much of a chance to try our delicious, fresh seafood. Many local restaurants stay open year round, offering deals to draw people in from the lighter crowds. Retreat indoors and fatten up.

Enjoy the Night

North Myrtle Beach has garnered a reputation over the years as a top nightlife and entertainment destination. While the crowds may be a bit thinner at the IMAX 3D theater, the film presentations are just as magnificent. In addition to a large selection of unique museums and entertaining dinner theaters, there are holiday themed shows all over town. North Myrtle Beach celebrates the season as much as anyone else.

Having Fun in North Myrtle Beach

North Myrtle Beach Condos and Things To Do

If you’re on the lookout for a luxury condo rental, Coastal Condos will help you find the perfect place. Whether you’re on a couple’s retreat, a family vacation, or a spring break extravaganza with friends, we’ll find accommodations that are right for you. So what will you do when you get here? We have more than a few ideas.

Go Fishing In Cherry Grove

North Myrtle Beach is truly a fisher’s paradise, and the Cherry Grove Pier is at the center of that. Built more than 50 years ago, the pier has been the site of some huge catches, including a 1,780 lb. Tiger Shark that set a world record. If fishing is not your thing, you can still enjoy a beautiful view from the two-story observation deck.

Learn To Shag Dance at Ocean Drive

That’s right, North Myrtle Beach has its own original dance. Invented in the 1940’s, the Carolina Shag is often included in national dance competitions all over the country. Check out the video below for a look at the steps:

Experience the Wild in Windy Hill

There are two great places to get up close and personal with animals in North Myrtle Beach. T.I.G.E.R.S. Preservation Station is a cage free tiger where you can even have a photo taken with a cub on your lap. Alligator Adventure is a park with a wide variety of animals to witness, from red kangaroos to Chinese alligators.

Shrink Your Golf Game

While Myrtle Beach is home to some of the nicest golf courses in the world, the mini-golf courses are equally impressive.  You won’t drive very far in any direction before you see a uniquely themed course that can provide relaxing fun for the whole family. It’s also a great chance to work on your putting game.

Take a Night on the Town

Even though our beaches are so impressive, it doesn’t mean there isn’t world-class indoor entertainment as well. The Alabama Theatre attracts nationally recognized talent, with shows from Bill Cosby and Merle Haggard coming up in the month of October. The House of Blues is another great venue that hosts concerts and runs a regular Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre.
